Miami-Dade County is a
county found in the southeastern part of the state of Florida. The US
Census Bureau guesstimates the county population was 2,478,745 in 2008,
making it the most populous county in Florida and the eighth-most
populous county in the US. It's also Florida's 2nd biggest county vis
land area, with 1,946 square miles.
The county's population makes up
roughly half the South Florida urban area population and holds one or
two of the principal towns of South Florida. The county seat is the town
of Miami.
The county is home to 35 incorporated towns and many unincorporated
areas.
The northern, central and eastern portions of the county are heavily
urbanized with many high rises up the shore together with the placement
of South Florida's central business district, Downtown Miami. Southern
Miami-Dade County contains the Redland and Homestead areas, which make
up the rural economy of Miami. Rural Redland makes up approximately one
3rd of Miami-Dade County's inhabited land area, and is sparsely
populated, a stark contrast to the heavily populated, urban northwards
Miami-Dade County. The western portion of the county extends into the
Everglades Countrywide Park and is populated only by a Miccosukee Tribal
town. East of the mainland in Biscayne Bay is also Biscayne Countrywide
Park.
